Newcastle legend calls club to prioritize keeping star player over retaining Bruno Guimaraes through his potential £100m transfer.

Shay Given believes that Newcastle United should keep Alexander Isak and sell Bruno Guimaraes to answer the club's financial concerns. However, Given hopes that both players will stay at St James’ Park next season. Newcastle United's management has admitted that they may have to sell one of the players this summer to balance the books and use the funds to invest elsewhere.

Bruno Guimaraes is a beloved Brazilian midfielder who is the spiritual leader of Eddie Howe's side. However, Manchester City and Arsenal are on red alert due to the £100m release clause that is active for one month up to the end of July. Arsenal and other top clubs are also monitoring Isak, who is establishing himself as one of the best strikers in the world.

Shay Given believes that Isak is one of the best strikers in the world and could play for any club out there. Therefore, Given thinks that Newcastle should keep Isak if they had to make a choice. He is concerned that if Newcastle sold Isak for £120m, they might not be able to find someone of his calibre.

As for Guimaraes, he has recently bought a new house in the North East, and Given hopes that his connection with the locals could prove decisive if someone triggers his release clause. Given believes that Bruno has a special relationship with the supporters, and his reaction to the Brazil-themed banner across the Gallowgate before last week's 5-1 win over Sheffield United was genuine.

Given believes that Newcastle has had a difficult season, with 11 players out at various times, and Eddie Howe has had to put kids on the bench to make up the numbers. Given thinks that sixth place would be a great achievement for the team, given their horrendous luck with injuries. Newcastle United plays against Burnley today as they try to hunt down Manchester United to claim sixth and a Europa League spot.
