Big Dan Burn talks to NUFC TV about his preferred position.

Big Dan Burn has been talking to NUFC TV about his preferred position.

The giant defender, whose performances at left back over the Christmas and New year fixtures came under severe scrutiny and criticism – much of it unjustified in the writer’s opinion – has enjoyed almost universal praise since his switch back to centre half was more-or-less forced by the long term injuries to Sven Botman and Jamal Lascelles.

But where is BDB’s preferred position? Here’s what he told NUFC TV.

“I think my strongest position is centre-back,” he said. “It’s the position I’ve played since I was a kid. I feel most comfortable there. But I’d probably say in contrast to that, the majority of my Premier League games have been at left-back, and managers continually pick me to play at left-back. So it’s not like I’m just putting myself in, there’s very experienced people putting me in that position.

I know that I can play there and I do enjoy playing there. It’s different. You’re put in one-v-one situations a little bit more, especially the way we play. We press a lot higher. You get to go forward a bit more, which I do enjoy. I like joining in.

But I have enjoyed playing centre-back the last few games. I think it’s probably what I needed, and I think I’ve played well.”

We’ll not argue with that, but it does beg the question who to deploy at left-back when we have a fully fit squad. Hall, Livramento, Targett or Trips.
