Emotional scenes in Valencia
Georgi Marmadashvili cut an emotional figure following his side's final game of the season at the Mestalla last week. Mamardashvili stared straight ahead at full-time as he sat with his back to one of his goal posts before the Georgia international got up, turned to the crowd, kissed the badge and slowly walked off the field, a clear signal to some that the cash-strapped club would be cashing in on one of their most saleable assets.
As reported by The Chronicle, Giorgi Mamardashvili has revealed that his future will be decided 'very soon' after the Valencia goalkeeper was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United.
The highly-rated Georgian stopper, who was linked last summer with a move to Bayern Munich told Geo Team "My future will be clear very soon. Now, I don't think about anything else because I have an important tournament [Euro 2024] with Georgia ahead."
It does, of course, raise questions as to the future of Nick Pope and his position as No. 1 keeper at the club.
If the reported fee of about £40m for Marmadashvili is anywhere near the truth, then, given current financial spending restrictions at Newcastle United, it's hard to believe that they'll be spending that amount on a Pope back-up.
